Missouri State Mushroom Hunt - April 29, 30 & May 1, 2005 - 3rd Annual MO State Championship Mushroom Hunt. Last year's event was extremely successful. Several citizens won trophies and there were many hunters from out of town. The St. Louis Post Dispatch as well as the local newspaper gave the Mushroom Hunt wonderful news coverage. Only registered hunters are allowed at hunt site. The hunt is exactly 2 hours. Early reports indicate a highly successful mushroom hunt. Over 89 hunters descended on the town to hunt for the once-a-year tasty morsels called morels. After the mushroom hunters received their trophies, the visitors to the festival got their chance to bid on the mushrooms. The highest bid for one-half pound of mushrooms was $36 and the lowest price was $16 for a 15 ounce single morel mushroom. Next year the organizers hope to enlarge the event to include entertainment for the kids and build a festival with vendors selling fresh as well as cooked mushrooms.
